Downtown 300 / Downtown battery being drained
« on: April 24, 2023, 01:17:29 AM »
Hello,

My 2013 Downtown seems to have a problem with its battery. I just installed a new one, and after a week it lost its charge, low enough that it couldn’t start up the engine. I recharged the battery on my trickle tender, but I’m in no rush to reinstalling it if it will just get drained again, or at least until I can figure out what’s causing the power drain.

Anyone have a problem like this before, or have any idea of the cause?

Downtown 300 / Downtown won't start
« on: March 06, 2022, 10:20:51 PM »
Hey everyone!

It's been while since I've posted here. My 2013 DT isn't starting. I suspect it's the battery but after placing it on a trickle charger and getting a fully charge reading it still fails to turn over. In the process of trying to get it to turn over I fear I may have damage the starter. Lately when I've tried again
on a warm day sometimes there's no activity when I push the start button.

Nothing.

I press the brake again, give a little gas on the throttle, and then the engine tires to start, but fails to turn over. Today I checked the battery within a digital multimeter and saw a good reading of about 12.75 volts.

If the battery is okay, should I suspect the starter, or look at other possibilities like the spark plug first?

Early Autumn. The Philadelphia Scooterist Club takes advantage of perfect weather for a group ride. I discuss where I've been over the Summer (and the rest of the year) as I completed a commissioned film, dealt with a hurricane, entered film festivals and show how riding is the best form of therapy.

Motovlog Trailer - The Road to Nova Scotia.

Before the Pandemic I took an eight day road trip from South New Jersey to the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, Canada. Without a cellphone, or GPS I made the trip old school, armed with the just the need to ride.

Xciting 500 / Xciting 400
« on: September 20, 2020, 05:23:46 PM »
With my current Downtown 300i having over 27k miles, and the model no longer marketed in the US I’d like to move up to a 400cc bike. I’d love it to be an Xciting 400, likewise it’s also no longer marketed in the US.

Regardless, I’m looking for used models - 2017-19, if possible. However, my local scooter dealership suggested that I’d consider another brand/model due to the difficulty in getting parts for any Xciting bikes. Anyone finding this to be true?

General Discussion / Rider or Driver
« on: June 03, 2020, 04:36:34 AM »
I'm celebrating 10 years of riding this year. Though I've been driving cars since I got my license at 17, today I realize I'm more a rider at heart. Heading towards my bank in our car (with the pandemic happening bank lobbies are closed so it's easier to use the drive through) I was excited to see a motorcycle up ahead on our main street coming in the opposite lane, and before I realized it I was all set to give the 2-finger salute.

I stopped myself because I was in a car with the door closed and the window down, but it just kind of hit me. The muscle memory was there - I'm a rider at heart.

Anyone feel the same? Anyone have a moment that identified who you are. 2-wheels or 4-four?

Downtown 300 / Battery problems
« on: January 05, 2020, 09:27:07 PM »
I purchased a new battery for my DT back in early October. Due to the cold weather it's been dying on me if I haven't started it in a few days. My last attempts have been pretty futile even after putting it on a trickle charger and restoring it to full charge.

The battery is a Chrome Pro YTX12A-BS High Performance Replacement Power Sports Battery. I find it hard to believe that after 3 months of use that the cold weather has really done it in. Anyone have experience with this kind of battery, or is there anything else I should check that could stop my bike from turning over?

If the battery is the cause - despite the name it was pretty cheap, and as they say your get what you pay for - any suggestions for a good cold weather battery?

Downtown 300 / New Battery
« on: October 02, 2019, 03:10:59 PM »
My battery's dead, so time for a new one. I have the stats for it - YT12A-BS AGM (or correctly me if I'm wrong), but I'm. looking at ordering this particular one -

https://www.batterymart.com/p-YT12A-BS-AGM-Maintenance-Free-Battery.html

 - as it looks to be the same size as my dead one, which means it will fit into the battery nook under the seat.

If anyone has a better suggestion I'm all ears.

Thanks,

- Wolf
