Xciting 500 / Potentially updating Variator to racing Variator.
« on: March 28, 2021, 05:52:11 AM »
I am eyeballing a Mollasi variator kit for about 300 bucks which is designed to be an upgrade to the stock variator. Alongside the kit will also be installed new rollers to accommodate so I do not lose acceleration.

Does anybody have experience with upgrading to a higher end, or even racing variator? I mean the kit is designed for this bike so.

Would like to know what to look out for.

Thanks

Xciting 500 / Possible transmission problem? Take off Symptoms.
« on: June 22, 2018, 09:02:52 PM »
Hi guys,

Strange symptom.

Upon take off at between 0-15 mph I get a lot of vibration on the front end.

So much that it caused the straighter valve in the air valve stem to become lose and leak air.

Potential causes? What part of the transmission might be affected if it is in fact a transmission issue?

Thanks.

Xciting 500 / How long are tire RIMS "Suppose to" last?

1-How long are tire RIMS suppose to last and

2-What sort of 'abrasions' should you be concerned about when you see them?

3-What kinds of damage can pot holes cause?

Thanks.

Hello Gents,

Since I have had my last couple of services I have noticed more and more vibrations from the footbed/Front end and I am perplexed as to what it could be.

They placed a new primary clutch assembly on the bike because of thread wear at the end of the original. Now, my understanding is the primary and secondary clutch are not evenly worn when they replaced the primary with a new one.

Ever since then I have been experiencing a increasing amount of Vibrations. First from the front end, then from what seems to be the footbed area.

Any other possible causes?

Xciting 500 / Small parts supplier Southern California?
« on: March 09, 2018, 06:51:09 PM »
Hey,

So I was informed that my rollers, even though ordered 2 and a half weeks ago, STILL might not be in todays shipment (I Have an appointment today at 3-5 to get the rollers replaced by the Tech guys at Berts Mega Mall).

I am now wondering if there is a supplier within 50 miles that I can visit and pay for the rollers out of my own pocket and have these tech guys keep my 3pm appointment because it is something I really do not wish to put off any longer.

Additionally I work Every day except Thursday and Friday and my work hours are the same as Berts work hours. This means I would not be able to secure an appointment with them till the following Friday, If one is open.

Xciting 500 / Front Suspension question (2016 Xciting 500)
« on: February 28, 2018, 05:04:39 AM »
Hi all,

So ever since I got my bike back from my clutch assembly replacement it feels like it's not been handling bumps the best.

I started thinking that my rear shocks were set improperly so I set them back to proper setting. But still, bumps are translating more than they did before the assembly replacement.

My first question is, is there anything remotely related to the front suspension that is needs to be taken off or messed around with in order to get to the clutch assembly?

Secondly, I just got my 8000k service done and I feel as if the suspension has not improved in terms of handling bumps, in fact I have been getting move movement and vibration from the front end in general since the clutch assembly was replaced.

The ride is just not as smooth.

One thing is, I have an appointment next Friday to get all 5 rollers replaced due to flat spots on them.

Not sure at all if there is any relation.

Thoughts?

Hey,

I got back from my 8,000 mile service earlier, the tech report said all 5 rollers have flat spots and he ordered 5 rollers for me and I have an appointment next Friday at 11am.

Is this the reason my belt feels like it's "catching" at about 90mph and not proceeding past this speed when I do my speed analysis experiments?

Also, what are other symptoms I should expect till I get the rollers replaced?

Thanks.

Xciting 500 / Clutch assembly replaced, some issues remain.
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:02:08 AM »
Hi,

So I recently had my clutch assembly replaced (which was thankfully covered by my warranty) but the bike still idles at around 2000 rpms, It's like, as soon as I turn the engine on the dial pops from zero to 2 on the RPM gauge.

Another disturbing thing is that I was on the freeway this morning and I got up to about 75 and I started getting a 'catching' sensation on the clutch, and it would bog a little and not increase speed beyond that.

It was about 2 exits before my exit and I got off the freeway then and used surface streets on my way home after work.

Any ideas? I want to be armed with knowledge before I bring it into the dealer *again*.

Thank you.

So,

Yesterday, after having driven my girlfriend to some Job interviews, right after we got to the second interview I noticed the bike bouncing and vibrating a lot when I pulled into the parking lot of our destination.

Usually when I set the bike into a parking spot, I center it using my legs with no throttle but the bike wasn't moving at all.

I noticed that the drive wheel was "locked" and wouldn't free roll. So I checked the parking break and it was not engaged so I knew it wasn't that.

Then I placed the bike in the center stand and started up the engine, noticed that the back wheel was moving kind of fast for normal idle.

So I drove it over to Berts Mega mall in West Covina and they're going to do an "inspection" before my 8,000 mile service next Friday.

My best guess till then? Something stuck in the drive assembly? Maybe dirt? Maybe the rollers are messed up and it's causing the rpms to pull slightly higher when idled?

What are your thoughts fellow riders?

Roadcraft / Freeway Riders, how do you handle angry tailgaters?
« on: December 29, 2017, 05:53:13 AM »
Hey,

Owner of a Kymco Xciting500 here.

I wanted to exchange info and ideas on how to deal with tailgaters, particularly the ones who tailgate at higher speeds, like 70, 80, 90, etc.

How do you guys handle it? How do you feel about it? How do you want to prevent it in the future?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if there's anybody in Southern Cal who knows anything about maintaining the Xciting 500 who's interested in giving me some lessons some time in the not so distant future?

My goal is to hopefully save some money and to meet fellow riders.

I corresponded with MJR a couple times but he seems to be unavailable now.

Thanks guys.

Xciting 500 / How does everybody clean their Xciting 500?
« on: November 25, 2017, 06:33:04 AM »
I was wondering what you all think is the best method of cleaning our Xciting 500's?

I am looking for something quick and easy.

Can I use a pre-soak soapy hose before a more forceful hose to get all the soap out?

Basically, Can I, should I, use only hoses?

Thanks.

Xciting 500 / MJR are you still around?
« on: November 03, 2017, 05:51:47 AM »
Hey MJR,

I was considering coming out to Costa Mesa this week to have you walk me through a couple maintenance issues.
We haven't seen you in a little while, I was wondering if you are still on the forum?

I hope those crazy wild fires from last month didn't present any problems for you buddy.

Xciting 500 / What could reduce top speed?
« on: September 26, 2017, 06:58:25 PM »
Hey Guys,

So I have noticed a top speed decrease from about 97ish MPH to now getting up to only about 90ish.

After my 4k service the service guy didn't mention anything about anything looking or sounding off kilter about the bike so i'm not sure if this is a normal speed reduction or not.

My observations are as follows, the first 2-3 months I had the bike my top speed was about 97 MPH maximum, but in the past month and a half I have noticed a decrease in this speed to about 90 or so.

Maybe it's just taking longer for the CVT to find the cycle (in other words, I would have to be fully throttled up for a minute to get to 97) but in the first 2-3 months it was getting there within 10 seconds when fully throttle up.

Mind you, I do not test for top speed often, just in situations where it is absolutely necessary, such as being tail gated by a SUV doing 85 behind me.

So, what are some things that can reduce top speed by around 5 mph?
