LIKE 200i / Re: Worn out Rubber parts available on aftermarket?
« on: June 22, 2021, 10:22:38 AM »
Hello Robo!!

VERY GOOD to hear from you again!. Hope all is well with you and yours'?
A couple of photos of LIKE and Austria would not disappoint! (& maybe a kangaroo? *)
Yeah, those parts you mention are not sold separately here in the States. Hopefully Ruffus' idea will help?
Here,  I'd likely try the used LIKE parts on ebay...except those nuts often sell at prices comparable to new!
Anyway' very good to hear from you!
Ride safe and stay (better!) in touch.
Best regards, Tom
*...a joke. (I know full well that kangaroos are nearly extinct in much of Europe !)

Hi Tom! Yes, all is good so far and wide. I would love to post pictures every now and then, but it´s a bit complicated in these Kymco forums to do so, as it is needed to upload them into some Web Cloud first and then put a link here. But we will see. Maybe I will find the time and will to do so one day again.

Besides riding that nice litte scoot, last summer I also bought a cheap used 29 year old motorbike (Kawa ZZR 500 with 72HP an 4 Cyl.) because my new girlfried wanted so... But I can tell you something: After about 5 rides together she lost interest (in the bike, not me  :D - as I predicted secretly) and I am riding alone again, both scoot and bike, and I find that riding a scooter is more or same fun and definately more relaxing and gives me everything I need in my "mid fifties". Which prooves once more, that one doesn´t need much cc and much HPs to have fun on two wheels.

Pls see pic, there is a plethora of diaphragmas out
at APRILIA, VESPA, YAMAHA etc. dealers.
They just don't want to search in their storages...

Thanks for this precious hint. With this I am pretty sure to find something that fits. At least for the brakefluid reservoirs.

And yes, I have already contacted Meister ZIP in Germany. No success.

LIKE 200i / Worn out Rubber parts available on aftermarket?
« on: June 18, 2021, 05:39:52 PM »
Hi guys,
here is once again a life sign from a Like 200i rider from overseas.  ;)

I´m still pretty happy as well with my 7 year old Like 200i with now 22.000km on the odo.

Last week I recognized a broken rubber cap at the back of the headlight while changing the brakefluids. UV-Light and Ozone worked obviously hard on my scooter the last 4 years not having a garage any more....
Also the rubber membranes of the brakefluid reservoir don´t look so pristine anymore.

Kymco unforrtunately does NOT offer these wearparts alone.  :-[

Does anyone have an idea whether these rubber parts are available somewhere at the aftermarket? Or maybe from another Bike model?
Right now I am not willing to buy a complete new Headlight assembly or Brakelever assembly just because of a broken Rubber Cap or Membranes and therefore support this kind of hillarious chinese spare parts policy.

Any help, hint or advise is highly welcome. Thanks!  :)

@Like 50
No. 1) The original Kenda Tires are Nylon Tires which are ok on clean, dry paved roads. They need to be ridden very carefully in rainy conditions and with only small bank angles. And a total no go in snowy road conditions.
No. 2) I am not aware of one single scooter or motorcycle tire (regardless of the size/diameter) that could handle well a 45 degree bank angle ??? over tramway steels. :o  So, better take it easy over the rails in a more upright position.

I live in a City with lots of tramway rails, where I regularily cross these, sometimes even in pretty acute angles but always in a nearly upright position with litte bank angles. Never fell and crashed for dekades there.  ;)

No 3) Make sure you are riding with proper tire pressure. 1,75 front, 2,0 - 2,3 rear (bar).

Stay and ride safe!

Have you or the previous owner ever installed any kind of additional electrical equipment which is permanently connected directly to the battery? USB Charger? 12V power cigarette lighter or gps tracking "mouse" or an additional stronger relay operated horn or clock or.......
Some of these items may suck your battery empty overnight or within a short period of time (days) if connected directly and permanently to the battery.
You should and may check your amperage flow via multimeter when the scooter is parked and off. Disconnect the minus pole of the battery and then measure the amperage flow between battery minus pole and disconnected minus (ground) cable.
The readout should be very very tiny. somewhere in the mA (milliamps) range.

This is another interesting 5 page long mysterious unsolved story of a defect scooter - which is usually rocksolid and reliable, if treated nicely. Although so many forum members tried to help and put so much effort into it, the owners just opted out all of a sudden. Hmmmm....

After reading carefully what Renee wrote and watching the videos of the cylinder head and the very wrong huge valve gap, my guess and conclusion is as followed:
The scooter´s last run with "beloved hubbie" on the highway was with either the wrong oil and/or not enough oil, or a defect oilpump, therefore it got too hot and seezed the valves/valvestems in open position. Therefore the huge valve stem gap. And therefore no compression. Looking at the open cylinderhead I also do not notice or see as much motoroil as I would expect or I saw in this aerea on my scooter´s engine.
Also possible now is a temporary piston seizure or piston damage via open valves. An endoscope camera system might help for further diagnosis.

Long story short: In my opinion this engine is dead.

And I am always a bit sceptic, reading about John and Jane Doe´s talking about themselves how experienced they are and what they have managed to do already "successfully" on their vehicles.
According to what dear hubbie has done to the scooter so far and how Renee tried to do the failure analyzis, I would recommend to both of them that they should better leave this kind of "service and repair" to real world professionals and mechanics.
It´s cheaper for them and maybe safer for all of us.  ;) :)

@3) unfortunately not. Read along in this forum. It has already been dealt with, I guess.
@5) this is essential! Especially within the first ~1000miles. Why? Because valves and valve seats  do and need to sit in during the break in process within the first ~1000miles.
Therefore the valve clearance is getting (dramatically) smaller. Maybe so small that the valve lash goes down to zero or even "below" which means, that the scooter may still run when the engine ist cold or in warm up, but may fail and stop to run when engine is getting hot after a longer ride. It has to do with temperature expansion of metall and aluminium when getting hot. It causes the valves stay open, so therefore no compression, therefore no combustion, therefore no working engine. It´s as simple as that.
So do yourself a favour, and get that valce clearance checked and set properly when engine is cold.
There are videos out how its done on the scooter and Stig has also written some perfect "manuals" for the scooter.

And as a 7th point) you might also check if the spark plug cap has good and strong and tight connection to the cable and the sparkplug  under all riding conditions. Because without a spark - no runnig engine either. Maybe a new cap is needed.

1) check if fuel line near tank on its way to the injector is squeezed somehow and somewhere. Might be an issue with very heavy riders.
2) check ventilation of gas tank cap. Try a testride without the cap eventually. Might even be a problem with heavy riders. Do not block the gas cap with rags or other luggage. Let it breathe a bit.
3) American Like scooter models have a rather senseless but complicated gas tank breather recycling system on board thanks to your overprotective safety board. Once this system was flooded by overfilling the tank, it might also cause issues.
4) healthy batteries are an absolute must for this electronically operated fuel injection system. voltage at rest is only one of three important figures. What figures does the multimeter show under load e.g. while pressing the starter button? Does it fall below 11.5 Volts? What does the multimeter show while idling or reving the engine a bit on center stand? It should significantly rise from 12,6V up to maybe 14V. Otherwise rectifier/regulator is malfunctioning.
5) was the first valvecheck ever done (and properly) on this scooter? If not, do it. 0.10mm both in and ex.
6) post here later what you have found out to make the scooter run again.
Good luck!

Yes, way overpriced. Good Lipos or LiFePos can be obained much cheaper. I guess roundabout $100,- should be more than enough.

General Discussion / Re: Like 200i Wobble
« on: February 03, 2020, 10:23:02 PM »
I experienced the same thing on the oem tires. They weren´t balanced and centered at all from factory. After I put on a set of new tires (different brand and thread) and BALANCED and CENTERED them very exactly, the wobble of the handlebar was totally gone. I now can/could ride handsfree up to top speed (~70mph). Like a train on its rails. That feels real´ good.

Still looks good, doesn´t it. Our chinese and indian friends would probably head out for the next 16000 miles on this front michelin tire. :-)

The combination of a certain constant amount of throttle and a well dosed use of the rear brake has always brought me safely through tricky slow speed passages and corners. Just keep practising. It´s getting better and better with every exercise.  ;)

Yes, the battery box fuses are a good idea. Looks like you may have blown one or two fuses while you were attempting to load the battery.

Should be....don't know what all the extra letters mean.
As long as it is a good quality, sealed both sides, 40x17x12mm.
I know for certain it is not Vespbretta's 6201!

Stig

The 6203 C 2HRS  is correct as for the rear wheel. The 6201 is smaller and for the front wheel!

@Karl
Yes, good point and there seems to be a glare issue too under bright sunlight.... 8)

@Tom
The new Like is indeed a bit bigger with more space for the rider. But maybe appears still a bit flimsy for the "Goliaths" in this world.  ;)
