Any Kymco Scooter rider out there in the LA or Yorba Linda area?  Trying to get riding distance without getting on the expressway.

If you are in Yorba Linda, you can try going over the hill into Corona. There is a power sports dealer that sells Kymco. Otherwise, any scooter shop can change a tire. Try Bert's or Del Amo, they use to sell Kymco, not sure if they still do.

General Discussion / Re: Dealer Costs and Fees at Purchase
« on: May 12, 2022, 01:39:49 AM »
 AK550 local dealer:
 $9899 MSRP.
$485. Freight set up.
$1550 A.D.M.
Plus dealer doc fees, 9.5% sales tax and $400+ registration fees. NOPE.
I'm more shocked that people are actually paying these inflated prices on cars and motorcycles.  They couldn't charge it, if there were no buyers.
I guess that goes for everything these days, houses, cars, etc.

General Discussion / Re: Is this for real? 2016 TMAX for $14,500
« on: February 25, 2022, 02:08:03 PM »
I have seen a 2015 TMax listed for over $9k in this part of the world recently. Also, a 3 year old XMAX listed for $2k over original msrp. People are either delusional, or someone is paying the inflated prices.
It is similar to a dealers ADM (additional dealer mark up). A new AK550 had a $2k ADM. If people stopped buying a new unit with inflated prices, they would be forced to drop it.

General Discussion / Re: Seriously ?? - "smoked" lenses for your scooter
« on: February 16, 2022, 12:29:03 AM »
I've seen the "pirate crowd" and "crotch rocket" guys, do the smoked lens thing with their bikes. As I told a Pirate friend of mine, "I want to be seen". Light it up, baby.

25 years ago, I took my first trip east to Kentucky. That was the first time I ever saw a Cardinal. I was in my 30s, and felt like a kid. I had only seen them on a baseball uniform and a football helmet prior to that. I know, I'm a dork, but it was something new for this city boy.

Top end in mine has always been around 58-60 mph. At 500 miles on yours, I wouldn't do that too often. Let it break in. It will smooth out around 1k miles. I have always read, that it is best to let the motor break before changing to synthetic oil.
Freeway riding the Like can be sketchy. Poor road conditions and our wonderful so cal drivers can be a deciding factor. I have only ridden on the freeways with my Like on Sunday mornings. That was when I was on the way to a scooter meet up, or during the lockdown when everyone was hiding in their homes.
Based on your freeway choices, I assume you are in the south bay. If you are interested in group rides, check out the South Bay Scooter Club, Long Beach Scooter Club, or Long Beach Area Scooter Group. There are a couple of Likes in those groups.
Good luck with your new ride.

The stock battery on my 2013 Like lasted 5 years, before I replaced with a Yuasa.

It happens a lot in major cities. Here they will stop traffic on a freeway with cars or motorcycles and do donuts in all lanes. They are mostly thugs trying to get a rise out of people. There is no penalties for things like that anymore here.

Rock stated that it had spark and good compression. If he has physically checked for spark, that would remove any electrical gremlins like kill/tilt switches. Is that the case?
 Where in so cal rokk?

I started having problems from a dead stop where the bike would feel like it was dragging and no pick up. I originally thought it might be the electrical gremlins returning. I realized it was the clutch hanging up.
I replaced the original clutch as a test with an aftermarket gy6 Ebay clutch on a recommendation by an inmate here a few years ago. It seemed like it had a heavier spring and definitely larger pads. Although, I had to scuff them up more frequently than the original, the clutch worked well.
Well now Its acting up. I removed it and inspected it. Springs are good, surface could use a cleaning but otherwise seemed ok. It seemed to be hanging up on the pivot points of the pads. ( I don't know the correct term).
Anyway, I had bought an OEM replacement at the same time I bought the Ebay clutch. Replaced clutch and no more problems.
The $35.00 clutch lasted for 5k miles. Not too good, but the OEM was $95.00. We will see. The LX has 15k miles at this time. Still cruising.

The motor itself does not smooth out until the first 1k miles. The ride does not compare to the Vespa with any tire.  The Kendas are generally ok, but I have read of a few bad tires on this forum.

I have met a couple of riders from this forum through the local scooter club. Also I have met several from the ADV forum through the same club.

I like that this scooter has created such a buzz. It looks great in the pictures I have seen on this site and on ADV. The posted pics of one fully bagged out are making me jealous. I would consider one, but just picked up a 2014 Majesty. Big scooter purchases will have to wait for me.

I finally managed to navigate the chaotic L.A. County websites. My first appointment is on 3/30. I am a bit concerned about side effects, since my Covid case was a little rough. The pneumonia and recovery kept me off work for a while. Thankfully, I fared better than a lot of people.

That is what mine sounds like when I forget to flip the kill switch.
