Ditto, Crossbolt.
As I remember it actually moves the reflector not the lens.
Take your time and go easy, it will adjust.

Downtown 300 / Trading in ....
« on: February 14, 2018, 11:09:55 PM »
... for the Kawasaki Versys 300.  Currently have 21K miles on the Downtown, only unusual repair was replacing the steering head bearings, never did that on any previous rides.  Enjoyed this bike and it's excellent for commuting and touring.  This was used as my backup bike to Vermont (2,700 miles).

I will trust that the Versys can backup my primary touring bike, 300cc does not bother me at all.

A riding observation with the Downtown.  On twisties there is no engine braking so you have to drag the rear brake.  Here is the kicker, just back off on the throttle a small amount as you apply the rear brake.  The pulleys still stay in contact and create a drag effect, yes the belt is wearing , but so does your clutch on a standard motorcycle.  If you just close the throttle the pulleys free up and no belt drag.

Will be checking in here from time to time.   Ride Safe and Have Fun !!

Downtown 300 / Re: under seat light not working.
« on: February 12, 2018, 10:13:05 PM »
IMO, forget the seat light, as previously mentioned its useless.

Here's what I did.

Go to Walmart and get some cheap, mostly white contact paper and stick that on the inside of the seat.
Now you can see whats in the seat, nothing worse than black/dark on black/dark background.  And that little headlamp that you carry under the seat for emergencies will light up your world , er  , seat.

Downtown 300 / Re: Headlight halogen to LED conversion.

Have the xenon in the low beams for years, brighter than stock.
On a whim, I ordered  2 LED (Sirius LED H8 Size DRL Fog lite, projection bulb) to replace the useless high beams.   Well, the body of the LED bulb is too fat for the black mounting bracket.
Would have to cut/drill the black mounting bracket, have not decided if I want to go that route or not.

Duh ,,, on me.
The bulb I got was for a projection fog lite.  It already has the lens encapsulated for a projector.   This made it too large for the black mounting bracket.

Technical | How To / Re: Adventure with mirrors continues
« on: January 31, 2018, 12:45:27 AM »
Yep, I futz around with the mirrors on the GTI.  With the Puig w/s it moves them
further back which I don't like.   So now I have mounted some Suzuki 600 mirrors to
the Puig w/s.  Like the location now, but they are a little blurry and useless at idle.
I will probably try to stiffen the mounting location with more plastic underneath.

Moved the GTi mirrors to my Honda CTX, far better than those stock Honda mirrors.

Bought the expensive ($129) OEM from Taiwan (rectangular shaped) mirrors that mount at the windshield location for the Downtown.   Great mirrors.

General Discussion / Re: Big Wheel Scooters
« on: January 31, 2018, 12:31:28 AM »
I have both Kymco 300's  :D
Replacing the Maxii tires on both models makes a good difference, especially up front.
The wheelbase is shorter on the GTi and the next front tire change I will go wider.
Its just a touch to twitchy or too quick with the stock size.  Both scooters are very good at
handling low or high speed.

Downtown 300 / Re: Kymco battery problem
« on: January 31, 2018, 12:23:01 AM »
Here is what I have for batteries.
Battery         Kymco  GT12A-BS,       Xtreme  XTA12A-BS

Replaced with the Extreme which looked identical, but I could not squeeze it past
the security (brass colored) brackets.   I took an angle grinder and cut some of the
bracket off.

IMO, best straps are ROK straps ... Amazon.

Second best, don't know what they are called.  Bought them at
Home Depot, they are like huge wire ties in plastic, they do not
slip.  Have both plastic rope and wire attributes.

Very smart taking a break, bad mistake that I make is pushing
harder the closer I get to home.

Downtown 300 / Re: BLOWING MAIN FUSE left right and center here :)
« on: October 10, 2017, 04:15:27 PM »
I disconnected the box light, almost useless, and painted the interior of the box   WHITE.

Also, when I had the front end off the scooter I re-wired the glove box fuse to reside inside the glove box.

People GT 300i / Downtown vs GT ... differences
« on: June 15, 2017, 04:07:02 PM »
OK, Kymco got the names confused they should be switched ... lol.

Styling, subjective, imo the GT is classic and better.

If most of your riding is in town/short then the GT is superb else
switch to the Downtown.

Downtown has more fuel and much easier to re-fill, I carry a spare
gallon on the seat tied with ROK straps when going longer distances on
the GT.   Downtown allows more seating positions than the GT which
translates to more comfort on longer rides.  The GT is quicker/lighter/faster
than the Downtown.  There is a noticeable difference in the variatior/clutch
on the GT, it grabs quicker.  The GT has a buzz in the seat at high RPMs
that numbs my butt,  I have just added some foam? padding to the seat
points , will see if that helps.

Same drive trains but the scoots are setup differently.

Make sure the air intakes, near your feet are clear.   Also, might want to peek underneath the scoot, there may be leaves or paper/cardboard stuck there.

Wish i could come up with a quip about 'hot butt', oh , wait, better that than your head ..... lol

People GT 300i / Re: Speed Update (78MPH) Kymco Puig (Pics)
« on: May 24, 2017, 10:51:13 PM »
I have the Puig ST, i think.

Two issues.

Screen is too flat, you can bend it by rotating the mounts inward.

Screen is too upright, you can fabricate a replacement (collar with hole) out of 1/2 " plastic grey pipe.  It takes some dremel/drill work but I changed the angle about 20 degrees flater .  You will loose about an inch in height.

Note, had the scoot up to 92mph (crouched with no screen), figure you can squees 95 max.   I have not tried going over 80mph with the screen .... yet.    lol
