General Discussion / AK550 Rear Performance Brake Pads?
« on: June 04, 2022, 11:22:18 PM »
Hello.
I've ordered EBC Double H pads for the front but am unable to find EBC PN SFA719HH for the rear. Looking at Galfer and SBS, I've also found no high performance pads.
Has anyone found performance pads for the rear of their AK550?
Thanks!

Sorry, three items.
1) Scorpion, two-piece leather suit with external armor.
2) Racer brand riding gauntlets.
3) Helite air vest.
All very comfortable and together have saved my bacon in a crash.

What they lack in elegance they seem to make up with ride quality and "charm". I'd be concerned about wear in the steering/suspension that will affect handling in the long term.

I have owned a BV 350 and don't believe they are as reliable as the Kymco product. Niggling issues that are just frustrating and unexpected for such a great RIDING bike.

Speaking from ownership of a 2006 People 250, the scoot is solid and I would have no issue purchasing one that shows signs of good ownership.

I am another TMAX rider that would love to have the AK550 option available to me.
I'm going to keep riding my 2009 TMAX until Kymco brings the AK550 or Yamaha brings back the TMAX WITH ABS. If they simply bring the TMAX with non-ABS, I won't opt for the TMAX.
Kymco: Please bring the AK550!

Be sure to check it again after your first ride. Better safe...

Antigravity, +1
These are not designed for long cranking times. The leads and clamps are light duty and will overheat if you crank too long. I've never experienced this issue.

Yes, I do want all the stuff, but still want to do the riding myself.
There's no human brain that can begin to keep track of all the details and respond as quickly as a microprocessor with the only job of keeping track of the rubber/asphalt relationship. The software that makes the decisions in the microprocessor is made by humans. Often, that and the 'processor/sensor speeds limit the capability of these systems.
I want to ride safely with all the things that technology can provide so I can enjoy the ride to the utmost. Yes, I like to ride quickly...

I look forward to hearing about your experiences with this scoot'. I would very seriously consider Kymco products as ~95% the quality of the "Big Four" Japanese moto manufacturers.
I was in Taiwan a few months ago and saw the 400i and 550. They are very impressive products and ones that I would take a long look at if they were in the US market (Yes, the 400i is already!). The DT300 is also a very attractive product, if not available here any more.
Happy riding!

Kymco News / Hey Kymco, Bring the 550!

I saw the above scoot' in Taiwan at a dealer. Looks great.
With no TMAX 530's with ABS available in the USA, Kymco would have this displacement/option market to itself. I want a maxi scoot' with good power, reasonable weight, good handling and ABS and nothing meets the spec's except the TMAX and Kymco 550.

Thank you for the heads-up.
This is a must do for me in the future. I have a great deal of travel scheduled for this year...

I saw 2018 DT's in Taiwan the week before last.
Kymco is the second largest scooter seller in Taiwan, after Yamaha. They are everywhere and unfortunately, polluting the air very badly with all the other old beater scoot's. Could barely breath and was sick for five days with respiratory problems. SO GLAD to be back in the USA where we give a s--t about what we breath.
