Title: Switching an 80 mm tire to 90 mm
Post by: squasher5 on August 03, 2017, 08:52:15 PM
Hi Kymco riders,

I have a 2004 kymco people 50. A great scooter, but I need new tires. I cannot find a front tire, 80/80-16 which does not require a tube. I do not want a tube. Has anyone tried a replacement using a 90/80-16 on the front? Will it rub too much.

Or if you know of a good proper replacement tire for the front....tell me. The back tire is easy to replace on Amazon. ;D ;D ;D

changing from 80 to 90 will add 1/4 " to the side of your tire if you have clearance it should be good

You should be fine with that size. I run a 100/80/16 on the front of my People 150. The only issue I have with it is a light rubbing on the rear of my fender during panic stops. I could fix that by flaring up the rear of the fender with my heat gun but it is really not an issue for me. Tubeless is the way to go. Much safer tire.

Thanks for the help. It seems that the shinko 80/80-16 listed on amazon for a great price is actually tubeless. It says on Amazon it needs a tube, but the people who have bought it say that when it arrives, it says tubeless on the tire. They have all installed it tubeless, and are happy.

So I am going ahead and will order both of my tires, front and back, on Amazon. The price is hard to beat.

 :) :) :)
