Title: Finding new engine?
Post by: hypophthalmus on July 26, 2017, 01:43:04 PM
Does anybody have any advice for finding a replacement engine for the People 250?

So far the only ones I've seen are in Italy on Ebay.

Would the S 250 engines fit if I come across one? Or a 300i engine? They look quite similar. The mounting holes for the fork seem like they *might* be in the same position and it looks like you could probably even attach People 250 carburetor.

Ebay.
Search Salvage Motorcycles on Google.

I've heard of West 60 Cycle. I actually tried to contact them by email, but still haven't heard anything. I'm hopefully moving pretty close to them though in the middle of August, so I'll probably try calling them then.

I've tried the salvage motorcycle search, but haven't found anything. It's possible though that I'm not being patient/thorough enough.

I would call them soonest. They may have what you need and may be gone if you wait. They are a Kymco dealer and a repair facility as well as a salvage yard. When you move closer you will enjoy "hanging out" as they were set up nearly like a Harley dealer with snazzy customer waiting area.

I finally have enough money to justify calling them.

Unfortunately, they said they very rarely have any Kymco engines. It's starting to sound like my only option is to attempt to part it out.

There's so many tiny metal fragments in the crankcase. I don't see how I could clear them out reliably enough to invest so much money into rebuilding it.

I just had a broken crankshaft on my 250. Engine runs like a top, just has no darned crank snout anymore. If you decide to part out, I'll take that crankshaft if it's still good.

The connecting rod is bent. I'm not sure if there's a way to swap the rod out.

I don't know if KymcoUSA.com will have what you need but goto KymcoUSA.com scroll down to parts icon and go to advanced search enter VIN and have a look.  Click boxes of what you want to look at and click on "submit" You will get parts lists and also if you have Flash pictures of parts.
