Title: Won't start! Tried everything! Please Help!
Post by: Jakeoh on January 21, 2017, 12:26:53 AM
Hey Guys,

I have bought this scooter, and have been unable to get it going.

I have checked spark, which is fine.

Fuel lines and good, as well as the vacuum tap.

I have cleaned carby, and jets are fine.

I have checked fuses and wiring. All good.

Air flow is good.

I have adjusted the valves. The exhaust valve was wayyyy off, but is good now.

The kill switch is all good.

I have checked everything that I can think of!!

When I try to start it, it turns over fine, but won't ignite. It sounds as if it's not getting spark or something, but the spark is fine.

Is there anything else that it could be??

I'll shoot a video later and attach a link.

Thanks!

Do you get a lot of gas out the hose when you open the float bowl drain screw?

cleaned carby . . adjusted the valves . . spark is fine

Verify flywheel/crankshaft woodruff key is not sheared.  Insert a probe into the sparkplug hole and turn flywheel to position piston at top-dead-center . . then observe if flywheel T-mark is aligned with case indicator, and cam sprocket holes are oriented properly with the top of the cylinder head.

Test cylinder compression.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I am ruling out any fuel problems as possible cause, as even when i spray starter directly into the cylinder it doesn't show any signs of life!

Kill switch is functional and in the correct position.

I will have a look at the woodruff key, but am fairly sure it's all working as it should.

Here is a link to video showing it:

Thanks!

From your video sound: you have no compression. Spins too fast and smoothly, BARELY slowing on compression stroke. Sounds to me, anyway.

Yeah I was thinking that, as the bike has done a lot of miles! I expected it to lack power, but didn't think it would prevent it from starting all together? I will order some new parts and let you know how I go! Cheers
